Ken Luker
Songwriter Musician
His relationship with music began at age five in an old abandoned house in the neighborhood that had a beat up piano in the back room.
"I would go over there and spend hours making up songs and hammering on that piano. I just loved the sound of it."
Ken's father started teaching him guitar about a year later, and by the time he was twelve had started a band, performing at various local Portland events, and later touring around the northwest and Canada during the 70's and 80's.
His solo acoustic work began developing during this time and he has been performing a wide range of music both electric and acoustic over the years. Some of Ken Luker's influences include Jerry Garcia, James Brown, Cold Blood, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Merle Haggart, Waylon Jennings, James Taylor, Santana, Ornette Coleman, Cornell Dupree, Duanne Allman, John Prine, Frank Zappa, Tom Waits, Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Todd Rundgren and Sun Ra.
Ken Luker is a singer, songwriter and musician. From his roots as a northwest native, hailing from Portland OR, he has traveled many musical miles.
His acoustic guitar work bridges elements of folk, country, blues and rock. As a jazz guitarist he weaves standards with a creative improvisational flare. And if you want to dance, well, Ken was weaned on rock and roll.
His talent and style reflect his philosophy that the process of creating and performing is a triad, consisting of equal measures of technique, intellect and heart. His live performances offer the opportunity to participate and immerse yourself in the rhythm and roll of a seasoned original artist.
